CERSI PI Susan Halabi's clinical trial design leads to key finding for people with bladder cancer

Published

For Scientists working to bring new medical products to market, the key to success is expertly designed clinical trials. Dr. Halabi’s contribution to the design of clinical trial, known as ABASSADOR, led to findings that treatment with an immunotherapy drug, pembrolizumab (Keytruda), may double the length of time people with high-risk, muscle-invasive bladder cancer are cancer-free following surgical removal of the bladder.

More about the study can be found in this NCI press release: https://www.cancer.gov/news-events/press-releases/2024/high-risk-bladder-cancer-pembrolizumab.

The results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in September 2024: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2401726
